Our High Mountain Phototours take you on a journey in some of the most scenic mountain areas in the Highlands. Capture spectacular mountain views and perspectives utilising the constantly changing natural light and shadow of the mountain environment. Explore creative photography in the high summits and ridges.

Join me in Assynt and a photographic journey on Cul Mor, one of the classic hills in the area, rising up from the Sutherland lochs and peatlands. At 808m in height, Cul Mor qualifies as a "Corbett" which has an impressive form with even more impressive views and vistas over the Assynt hills and westwards, across the Minch to the Outer Hebrides of Harris and Lewis.

There is a well defined walkers path which gradually gives way to open hill and a very short, but easy steeper section towards the summit.

With twin summits and spectacular views from each, there are wide reaching views and panoramic perspectives with a great deal of scope for capturing some of the finest views in Scotland. Add in the potential for photographing amazing west coast light, coastal views from the summits and capturing the sculpted architecture of the mountains, cast from some of the most ancient geology in the world, this location is simply unbeatable.

The photographic theme for the day will depend on the light and the weather but will there is scope for making the most of the location, the light and the mountain perspectives.

This is a great workshop both for beginners and those looking for more advanced techniques. We'll look at the use of filters, contrasting light conditions and how to set up your camera for best results. Bring along your tripod, filters and your choice of lenses for the day but please don't forget the hillwalking essentials which comprise:

  • Walking boots
  • Suitable waterproofs for protection against rain and wind
  • Hat and Gloves
  • Spare / warm clothing
  • Food and liquid, sufficient for a day out in the mountains

This Workshop is graded as Blue, taking account of a 8.5 mile walk in a mountainous area, with an ascent of just over 800m, to the summit of the hill. As with all Scottish hills, we need to be prepared for some moderate changes in weather and prepare accordingly. You should have some previous experience of walking in the mountains.

I am a qualified and experienced mountain leader who will both plan and guide your day in the mountains according to the weather, the terrain and your aspirations.

If you would like a taster of a previous (overnight!) photography workshop on Cul Mor, then take a look at my Blog here.
